Dog Health Issues
Deworming
Puppies are particularly susceptible to worms. Exercise caution with your pet and their waste. The method of infection varies with the type of worm, but includes transmission via the milk while nursing, skin penetration, and oral ingestion. Gastrointestinal parasites can cause serious disorders in dogs, including life-threatening anaemia, loss of proteins from the body, loose motion, vomiting, low glucose in blood, intestinal obstruction, and weight loss. 1.For most puppies, it is sufficient to deworm routinely every 2-3 weeks until 6 months of age and then as advised by your vet. There are many safe, effective products available, which will eliminate these worms. 2.The most common parasites found in puppies are hookworms, roundworms (ascarids), whipworms, tapeworms and Giardia spp. If your dog is infected, you will probably notice the tapeworm segments in his fur around his back end or in the faeces. They look like grains of rice and are often seen to move. 3.Fleas transmit one type of tapeworm, and it is therefore wise to treat your dog for fleas if you notice any tapeworms. The ordinary roundworm tablets are not effective against tapeworms and a different form of treatment is required. Some products available for dogs are effective against both roundworms and tapeworms.Always ask your vet for advice. 4.Certain canine parasites, such as hookworms, roundworms, at least hree species of tapeworms and several intestinal protozoa including Giardia spp., can be transferred to humans.

Dog's Leg Bending Problem
The pressure of romping and jumping all day causes the long bone to bow. With early detection, you can correct this issue with the right vitamin/mineral supplement. The problem with bowed legs is that your baby is growing faster than your diet is allowing. Put on adult diet (not puppy food) and wean

Puppy Vaccination
Puppy’s first shots Puppies need their first vaccinations at six to eight weeks old. Whether you adopt a puppy or buy one, make sure you get any medical records. In their first year, fur-babies will need to visit the vet a few times for immunizations and regular booster shots. When to vaccinate? Vaccines are only effective once a puppy has been weaned. Your vet will advise you on the immunizations that are best for your dog, which depend on many factors including where you live and how many other pets are in your home. Most states require that all dogs be vaccinated against rabies. Be sure to keep proof that your dog’s shots are up-to-date. Must-have shots All puppies should be immunized against parvovirus, distemper, rabies and hepatitis. Vaccination schedule Puppies receive most of their vaccinations every two to four weeks until they are at least 14 weeks old. Some vaccinations are given as a combination, such as the DHLPPC, which helps protect against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parain fluenza, parvo and corona. Puppy Diet Chart
Puppy Nutrition Puppies need puppy food. Feeding puppies a complete and balanced puppy food ensures they get the proper nutrition to develop and grow into healthy adult dogs. Puppy foods are formulated with a balance of nutrients to help puppies grow up healthy and happy. Look for protein-rich formulas to support their growing muscles. Carbohydrates supply the energy active and playful puppies need, while calcium supports developing teeth and bones and DHA helps support healthy brain and vision development. Feeding Puppies Large & Small Not only do puppies need puppy food, but certain breed sizes can benefit from size-specific formulas. If you have a large breed puppy, he may benefit from a large breed-specific puppy formula. Small breeds can also benefit from small breed-specific puppy formulas. Regardless of breed size, the food should be complete and balanced for growing puppies. The difference in formulas comes down to the unique needs of large and small breeds. Large dogs have a higher risk of joint problems, so a large breed puppy food may include additional nutrients to support their growing joints. Small breeds may prefer smaller kibble so they can more easily chew their food, which helps ensure they get all the nutrients they need. According to Purina Senior Nutritionist Jan Dempsey, “Small breeds have a higher metabolic rate than larger breeds. This means they need more nutrient-dense, higher-energy food, and the same is true for small breed puppies. That’s why it’s important to feed specific small breed puppy and adult formulas.” Dry vs. Wet Puppy Food Although dry kibble is a popular choice, it’s not the only option. As you walk the dog food aisles, you may see both dry and wet puppy food. This can make it harder to decide what to feed your puppy. Fortunately, as long as both the wet and dry formulas are complete and balanced for growing puppies, you can feed either one to your pup with confidence. You and your puppy may have a preference when it comes to dry vs. wet. Feeding a combination of the two is also an option. If you choose to feed a combination of the two, ensure the combined amounts don’t exceed your puppy’s daily recommended caloric intake. Your veterinarian and the chart below can help you navigate how much to feed your puppy. “When feeding a combination of dry and wet food, you need to determine the daily dry amount and the amount of calories this provides first,” says Dempsey. “In general, one three-ounce can of wet food has ninety calories and equals approximately a quarter cup of dry food. So, you should substitute a three-ounce can of wet food for a quarter cup of the daily dry food amount. “You can find specific information on Purina dry and wet puppy foods on the package or can or on the brand websites. Your veterinarian can also help you develop a plan for feeding your puppy,” Dempsey continues. “Remember, don’t overfeed your puppy and make sure he maintains an ideal body condition as he grows.” How Much to Feed a Puppy Now you know what to feed your puppy, but just how much food does he need each day? Because puppies grow at such fast rates, they need to start eating a complete and balanced puppy food as soon as they’re weaned, usually between six and eight weeks. The amount of food your puppy needs depends on how much he’ll weigh at maturity. A Labrador Retriever will weigh more at maturity than a Russell Terrier, for example. So the larger dog requires more food as a puppy. The chart below can help you determine how much dry food to feed your puppy. You should also review the specific feeding instructions on the back of his puppy food and consult with your veterinarian. Puppy Feeding Chart Puppies should be fed three to four times a day therefore if you are currently feeding ¾ a cup of puppy food twice a day you should consider spacing it out by feeding ½ cup three times a day. Our puppy feeding chart is a starting point to help you determine how much dry kibble to feed your puppy. Consult the puppy food package for more specific feeding instructions or talk with your veterinarian. When to Feed a Puppy Once you know the daily feeding amount, you need to create a puppy feeding schedule. Take the total amount of food your puppy needs each day and divide that into a series of smaller feedings. Give those smaller amounts to him at regular intervals each day. An easy puppy feeding schedule to follow is to feed him when you eat—at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Remember to feed him early in the evenings so he has time to digest his food before bedtime. This can help prevent accidents inside. Consistency is key. Feeding puppies at consistent times each day helps them get used to the routine. When to Stop Feeding Puppy Food Eventually, you’ll need to stop feeding puppy food and switch him to a complete and balanced adult dog food. This transition is dictated by breed size, just as the amount to feed a puppy depends on his breed. Larger breeds may take longer to reach full maturity, so he may need puppy food for up to two years. In general, however, expect to make the transition to adult dog food between one and two years of age. Talk with your veterinarian to determine the right time to make the switch and for tips on making the change easy on your pup.

General Talks
What Are Dog Accessories
1.Puppy Crate, Dog Beds & Dog Kennels Choose a quiet area of the house or outside your house if you are considering a kennel. Select a space where your puppy can sleep without being disturbed whenever he's tired. Let him get comfortable with this space. Line his bed with something soft and warm (and something to snuggle with). You could choose an old blanket, as he’s likely to chew. Food & Water Bowls Try the "non-tip" variety of bowl, or put a plastic, non-slip mat underneath his bowl. Stainless steel bowls are also recommended, as they're easier to clean and keep your puppy's feeding area hygienic. Clean both his food and water bowls every day. Regularly fill your puppy's bowl with fresh water. If you're serving wet puppy food, ensure that it's kept refrigerated and your puppy eats it within 15–20 minutes; if he doesn’t finish all of his food, discard it. 2.Toys and Chews Choose toys and chews that are the right size, shape and texture for their growing teeth, mouth and jaws. Ask your vet for suggestions. 3.Stain Removers and Deodorizers Because your puppy can (and will) have accidents as he becomes house-trained, it's a good idea to pick up some stain removers and enzymatic deodorizers. If the area isn't completely cleaned, your dog will continue to smell his personal scent, and keep returning to the area to do it again. If a 'wet' accident has just happened, clean effectively and remove the odour by applying a deodorizer. 4. Shampoo, Brush and Comb, and Toothbrush/Paste. Talk to your vet about a dog shampoo that's pH balanced and suitable. Select the brushes and combs to ensure his or her coat stays healthy and tangle-free. Do expore options best suited to your dog’s breed. Brushing teeth can be a challenge at first, but if you introduce it while he's young, he will adjust to the process. ID Tags and Dog Collars. Choose a nylon or soft leather collar; or a dog collar that expands as he grows. Your puppy’s identification tags should be firmly attached to his collar. Include his name, your current address and phone number. It's also a good idea to include a separate tag with your vet's name and phone number 5.Dog Chain or Leash According to your preference, you may keep a long or a short leash, or both. Use the short one for walks, or park trips. A long leash cuts him some slack to stretch his legs. Remember to limit the exposure of your puppy to other puppies and dog parks until he's received his vaccinations.
